Hobbies Bronze Award
Only Crew One members are eligible for this
award. If you are not a member, and are interested,
click here.
Do 9 of the following 12
requirements:
1. Visit a Pow wow, and talk to someone about how technology has impacted how a
pow wow is run.. (sound systems, microphones etc..)
2a. Make a piece of regailia to improve on your own outfit.
2b. Using your resources, create a clean, attractive display highlighting your
chosen piece of regailia
2c. Show both at your crew meeting.
3a. Visit a Pow wow, and talk to the host / organizer. Ask about what steps and
preparation were taken to organize the pow wow.
3b. Sit through the pow wow. Look at other’s regailia. Find some designs or
ideas you liked that others are wearing. Bring these ideas back to your crew.
4a. Choose a dance style. Research what you need for the outfit. Begin to learn
a few steps.
4b. Take pictures and/or keep other memorabilia related to your new dance style.
4c. Dress as much as you can in your new outfit. Show your new dancing technique
to your Crew.
5. Tour a Native American museum. Talk with one of
the curators about the museum. Ask about what it takes to catalog and properly
display artifacts.
6. Develop a plan to increase your physical endurance and dancing ability.
Carry out your plan for at least 90 days.
7. Lead or participate in a Crew discussion on the merits of a young person
dancing in a pow wow. Discuss the benefits of friendship, better health, and
costs involved. Ask an adult who is not active in your crew and who regularly
participates in Pow wows to join your discussion to get his or her point of
view.
8. Talk with some venders at a Pow wow. Talk about his role in the event.
Share this information with your Crew.
9. Participate in 4 Crew events that involve dancing or performing for groups of
people.
10. Organize a trip to a Pow wow. Include travel itinerary, plans for meals, and
all transportation arrangements.
11. Photograph 3 separate Pow wows. Create a video/slide presentation with
narration.
12. Using your artistic ability, do one of the following:
a) create a flyer for a crew event
b) instruct a class on a crafting technique
